Giant Squid working on new recording!!
Straight from the Squids' mouth:
This June, GIANT SQUID will travel to Seattle, WA to record the highly anticipated next release entitled, Cenotes. This EP will be their forth official studio album, and second release under Translation Loss Records. Prestigious heavy music producer, Matt Bayles (Mastodon, ISIS, The Sword) returns to helm the knobs and hone the band's eclectic vision. Cenotes will be released in late October/early November. Exact date to be announced soon.
Though only four songs long, each lengthy track is quintessential GIANT SQUID, and takes the kinetic energy of their older, bludgeoning fan favorites like "Neonate" and "Sutter's Fort", and drenches it in all the exoticness of their 2009 critically acclaimed masterpiece, The Ichthyologist, continuing the elaborate mythos of that album's protagonist. The middle eastern esthetic that GIANT SQUID has embraced throughout its entire cannon, consumes this new material to its core, and further enhances the band's trademark, otherworldly musical storytelling.
Many bands are quoted about how their impending release is as heavy as their iconic older material. But, with the return of "Sutter's Fort" bombastic drummer, Scotty Sutton, secure and in place, coupled with founding member Aaron Gregory writing entirely in a bizarre, lower than ever, seven-string guitar tuning, and renown cellist Jackie Perez Gratz fresh of touring with her band, Grayceon, behind their landmark release earlier this year, All We Destroy, as well as recording with underground legends, Agalloch and Om, the band has been with out a doubt affected, and poised to write the deepest, fastest, sludgiest material of their career. On Cenotes, they deliver just that. Riff worship meets gypsy jangle, progressive groove, Arabesque vocal harmonies, and adventurous song crafting.
Those eager to hear the new material can do so in early July, as GIANT SQUID will play Cenotes in its entirety at three Northern California shows, two of which are all ages. Dates are listed below, and are not to be missed, as they are the only gigs the band will be playing for the rest of the year, as Jackie and Aaron are expecting their first child in September, and will be busy with all the wonderful commitments of such!
GIANT SQUID shows in JULY 2011
Friday, July 1st, ALL AGES at Thee Parkside, San Francisco, CA w/ JUDGEMENT DAY, RAJAS
Friday, July 8th, 21+ at The Blue Lamp, Sacramento, CA w/ LA FIN DU MONDE, (WANING)

I'm baaaaaack
It's been awhile since I've updated this thing. My apologies. I am just now realizing that in lieu of a "real" website, I should really take advantage of this since MySpace is going the way of the dinosaur and Facebook isn't really conducive to listing tour dates and whatnot.
My aim is to post tour dates, announcements, awesome press.....really, anything to do with the radtastic bands I work with.
To bring you up to speed, here is a little taste of what everyone is up to:
Black Math Horseman - writing a new album; playing Roadburn and touring Europe in April
Dog Shredder - releasing vinyl early next year; West coast tour in Spring
Fight Amp - I haven't technically announced that I'm working with them so wait for that
Grayceon - signed to Profound Lore; new album out in Spring; playing SXSW
Giant Squid - working on EP; more shows in April and beyond
Lesbian - just released their new album Stratospheria Cubensis on Important Records; SXSW as well as East coast tour in the Spring
Via Vengeance - releasing new album next year

Translation Loss Records signs GIANT SQUID!!
TRANSLATION LOSS WELCOMES GIANT SQUID TO THEIR FAMILY! FULL US TOUR IN AUGUST!
Translation Loss Records - home to such bands as Mouth of the Architect, Intronaut, Battlefields and God's Revolver - has officially added GIANT SQUID to their family! They will release The Ichthyologist, which was originally self-released in a limited number of 1000 by the band, this summer in conjunction with the band's tour alongside GRAYCEON*. Engineered, mixed and produced by Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Pearl Jam), The Ichthyologist has now been tweaked with parts being completely re-recorded and remixed due to the band’s constant strive for perfection from their mastermind/lunatic, Aaron John Gregory. The record will also be repackaged with completely redone/original art by legendary, world-renowned cartoon artist, Sam Kieth (The Maxx, Batman, The Sandman). The band’s lineup is rounded out by Jackie Perez Gratz (of Amber Asylum/Grayceon), Bryan Ray Beeson and Christopher Melville Lyman.
*TL has a Giant Squid / Grayceon split planned for 2010
Visit www.myspace.com/giantsquid to check out the up to date information on the band's upcoming summer tour and current sound clips from The Ichthyologist! New remixed and re-mastered songs will be posted soon!

What folks are saying about GIANT SQUID:
"While the narrative may take a page from Gregory’s personal life, musically, The Ichthyologist invokes the elemental force of Neurosis, the cinematic scope of God Speed You Black Emperor, and the attitude of punk rock" – Revolver Magazine
"Musically, however you view The Ichthyologist, it's a massive undertaking with layers of instrumentation, voices, sonic moods, waves and textures, presenting a life affirming twist on the light-dark, up-and-down, seesaw post metal style." - Decibel Magazine
"Monstrously penetrating, conceptually abstract, doomingly essential." - Thrasher Magazine
**And lastly, of course any and all booking inquiries can be directed to me**

Giant Squid and Starbird join forces
I am more than pleased to announce that San Francisco's Giant Squid have joined the Starbird family.
www.giantsquidlives.com || www.myspace.com/giantsquid
Giant Squid recently self-released their 2nd full length on February 3rd, a limited edition (1000 copies) album entitled The Ichthyologist. Recorded by Matt Bayles (Minus the Bear, Isis, Botch) at the Red Room in Seattle, it features guest musicians from members of Neurosis, Crisis, Amber Asylum and The Gathering.
Their most recent tour was a February jaunt with Relapse Records' 16 and an upcoming national tour with Grayceon is in the works for Summer. Keep an eye out for dates.

"The Ichthyologist is, for lack of a better term, a grand fucking slam. Sublimely textured but crushingly heavy, deep as the ocean at its heart and yet instantly approachable, this is more than a great metal album—it is a beautiful work of art, by any standard. Even after writing this review, I can’t wait to listen to it again, and I’ll consider it a gift from the heavens if I hear another album even close to as good as The Ichthyologist this year." – metalreview.com
